'Tis the Season

It's very rare for me to take a day off work for being sick. I just have a strong immune system. But, that wasn't the case this week. I'm impressed I lasted as long as I did though due to my work environment of 28 germy four-year-olds. :-) I woke up Monday morning with a cough. I had an all day district meeting that day so I went to work anyway. Then Tuesday I went to work in my classroom thinking I'd give it a try. By the end of the day my voice was gone and I felt weak. So I ended up taking Wed and Thurs off thanks to my aunt who subbed for me. Now I feel much better. No more body aches and being lightheaded. Now its just the occasional cough and runny nose. But, it's not the end of sickness in our home...

Cooper woke up at 2 am Saturday morning with a 100* fever! It's so sad to see our little guy sick. You can tell he's not himself and he's just miserable. His whole eating and sleeping schedule is thrown off and I hope it doesn't take him long to get back on track once he feels better. His fever has now subsided to 98* and he has a raspy cough, major runny nose, and he's whiny. Even though he's sick he still tries to be happy and I love how cuddly he is. I think being snuggled by mommy or daddy helps comfort him. It's hard for me to take care of him when I'm still sick too. He also doesn't eat or sleep as well as he did. The past two nights I haven't slept much. It brings back memories of those long restless nights when we first brought him home from the hospital. I hope our poor little guy gets better soon.

He used to scream all the time and Steve would call him our little Velociraptor. But now he sounds like this... It's so sad!

Steve's Doo

So Steve usually spends his nights at the computer doing homework and since I don't have anything to do I sometimes give him a head massage. Well, last night I had the idea to do this instead... :-)

A Mobile Update on Cooper

Cooper is so anxious to MOVE! He loves to roll around the living room and he gets frustrated when he can't reach what he's trying to get to. He also loves to stand up while holding onto furniture and he'll get into the starting position for crawling but after that, he has no idea what to do. He'll just kick his legs like he's a fish out of water. It's funny. :-) And lately, he's finally figured out how to take steps. It's so cute. I hope you enjoy some videos to illustrate...

Steve is in Heaven!

As most of you probably know, Steve's favorite meal and snack is cereal. He has at least 2-3 bowls of cereal a day and we go through 2-3 gallons of milk a week. Cereal and milk seemed like something we were always stopping by the grocery store to pick up on a weekly basis. But this time, we found some really good cereal ads in the paper so I think we're good to go for awhile and we might have gone a little overboard... :-)

This is what our cereal cupboard currently looks like. Believe it or not, Steve has already eaten 2-3 boxes since we bought them. He is so happy! :-)

Sage's Baby Blessing

Cooper got to spend Valentine's Day with his future Valentine at her baby blessing. I think they look adorable together... :-)

Valentine's Day

It was fun having a three day weekend during Valentine's Day. I got to spread my holiday out over four days. :-) On Friday my students and mom spoiled me with all sorts of valentine's and treats...

I ended up sharing a lot of it with my brothers and sister. :-)

On Saturday, I was treated by my in-law's ward scouts to a gourmet homemade 5 course lunch. I was highly impressed with the late night and early morning hours the scouts put into the cooking. The meal consisted of bacon wrapped water chestnuts, shrimp cocktail soup, apple spinach salad, chicken cordon bleu, scalloped potatoes, fried vegetables, and cheesecake. It was delicious! (All except for the shrimp soup-I'm not a big fan of sea food.)

Then Saturday night Steve and I took Mary, Aaron, and Timmy to the dollar theater. Steve and I saw 2012 and the kids saw Planet 51. 2012 was a very entertaining Noah's ark story. :-)

On Sunday, I woke up to these and lots of hugs and kisses...

Steve had informed me that I wasn't allowed to buy him anything for Valentine's Day so I love note attacked our room with sticky notes. He still has them up. :-) We then went to Sage's baby blessing and spent the afternoon with our best friends and eating yummy luncheon food. Then we headed over to the Scholle's for valentine waffles. On Monday, Steve and I dropped Cooper off at Grandma Scholle's and we headed to Salt Lake to enjoy a romantic dinner at The Roof restaurant on top of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. (much thanks to my sister and Justin) We had a beautiful view of the temple, the piano player was magical, and the dessert buffet was ginormous. :-) It was our first time eating there and we enjoyed it but we don't think the food selection was worth the price. The atmosphere was great though!

I later found out that my valentine Minnie Mouse had a Mickey to go with her. So I went to Kmart to buy the Mickey a few days ago and guess what... I got him for 75% off-only $7!!! Sweet deal! So here are my adorable Disney valentine decorations... I'm tempted to get the Easter ones as well. :-)

So cute!
Overall, it was a love filled weekend. I love you honey!!!

Picture Perfect

So I've recently discovered that somehow the resolution settings on our camera got changed sometime in December. So all my pictures the last few months aren't very good quality. After playing with the camera for a while yesterday, I'm hoping I fixed the problem. I wish I would've noticed it sooner. :-{ Oh well.

Disneyland here we come!!!

We've decided to go to Disneyland for my spring break the first week of April and we just booked our hotel. Yeah! It's been over a year since we've been. I can't wait!

7 months old!

Cooper is now 7 months old and boy is he anxious to move. :-) He has officially discovered how to rollover. Yeah!!! And he'll roll all over the living room to get to his toys or whatever mom and dad have. It's so fun and entertaining to watch! :-) He has learned how to shake his head "no" and nod his head "yes". He loves to pull off his socks and play with them. He was entertained by a paper clip for at least 10 min the other day. He's highly entertained by watching mommy do her workout videos. :-) He's starting to reach for us whenever he wants us to hold him. He has also developed a fake cry when he tries to get his way. But mommy is too smart to fall for it! :-) Whenever we sit in the front rows at church, he gets so mesmerized by the chorister. He'll just stare at her the whole time and even follow her to her seat. It's so cute! He weighs 19lbs 8oz and is 29 inches long. He's officially grown out of his 6 month old clothes-mainly because he's got such long legs. :-)

I don't have very many pictures this month but here's a few to enjoy...

He loves doing all sorts of things when he's in his highchair. Playing with spoons, playing with his binki, sucking on the blue tray, kicking, pounding on the tray, blowing raspberries, etc...

In this picture he's throwing the binki around and closing his eyes when it gets close to his face

First time in a high chair at a restaurant. He loved it! He loves sitting in shopping carts too! :-)

He LOVES tearing up paper

Cute picture moment :-)

Trying to 'crawl' after his basketball

He loves to suck on the ball too :-)

Cooper: We love that you're eager to learn, we love that you're so social, we love that you're happy, we love that you're ours, and most of all, we love that you make us laugh! We love you Cooper!!!

Grandma and Grandpa Together At Last...

My Grandma Hessing passed away Saturday, January 23. She had suffered a stroke shortly after Thanksgiving and had been hospitalized since and things just didn't get better. I had the opportunity to go to Boise for her funeral on Jan 30. It was a beautiful service full of love, memories, and family. I am so glad that she is finally with Grandpa after seven years of waiting. They leave behind a posterity of 7 children, 33 grandchildren, and 66-soon to be 75, great grandchildren. I can only imagine the happy reunion with their arms wide open, their beaming smiles, and their tears trickling down their cheeks. What a happy day!

What I remember about Grandma and Grandpa Hessing...

Their House in Boise is as real to me in memory as if I was there yesterday. Some of the main things I remember are: Grandma's pink bathroom, the swinging doors into the kitchen, the rotary dial phones, the organ, the game room with the Foosball table, air hockey table, pool table, exercise bikes, and pedal piano, the big playhouse in the back yard, the fridge in the driveway full of soda, the cookie jar full of cookies, the chairs, the dog in the entryway, the copy machine, the storage room... The list goes on.

Grandma always had mashed potatoes and meatloaf waiting for us when we got there. She always had a smile on her face and was singing or humming a tune. Her kisses on my cheek stung with peppermint and she smelled of baby powder.

Grandpa always had black licorice and whoppers hiding in his closet that he let us get into. He loved to sit in the kitchen and read his newspaper. His handshakes were so firm from his huge hands. And he gave big papa bear hugs.

I love you Grandma and Grandpa Hessing! Love, your Jess Delight :-)

***

The trip to Boise was a quick one. Cooper, my mom, my dad, and I left Friday afternoon, we checked into our hotel around 7pm then my dad and I went to my uncle Mark's to practice singing the cousins and siblings songs for the funeral while my mom stayed at the hotel and watched Cooper. Then I helped my dad write a life sketch of his mother for his talk. On Saturday we enjoyed a hot continental breakfast, then we went to the viewing, had the funeral service-which Cooper liked to scream through :-), then followed a police escort to the burial site, went back to the church for the delicious funeral potatoes and ham dinner, then we packed up the car and headed back home through a few snow storms. :-) Cooper slept the whole way home and we arrived back in Orem at 2am. Then I got up with Cooper at 8am just in time for 9:00 church. :-) Very short and sweet!

It was Cooper's first road trip. He did great! On the way there, he slept for three of the five hours then I had to try my best to entertain him with movies and toys...

He loved playing on the hotel bed and looking at himself in the big closet door mirror. He also liked watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse for the first time. And he loved screaming for all in the hotel to hear. :-)

Cooper's first time using his pack'n'play
He slept really well! He went down around 10 and woke up around 7 for a bottle then went back to sleep till 9. My mom said when she first put him down for bed he kept playing with the side of the pack'n'play trying to explore his new surroundings. :-) Even though he slept so well it was still hard for me to sleep because he's so noisy tossing and turning and making all sorts of noises. :-) Gotta love him!

He's such a cutie!

I enjoy seeing my cousins on the Hessing side because it rarely happens since they all live in Boise.

Old Faithful

About a week and a half ago on Wed Jan 27 around 11pm, I went to take the garbage out to the garbage bin and I heard a sound coming from our side yard that literally sounded like a waterfall. Come to find out, there was an above ground PVC pipe in the flower garden by our shed that burst into pieces and water was shooting out of the ground at least three feet into the air. It was Old Faithful. :-) There must have been a 6 inch pool of water and mud in our side yard and we have no idea how long it had been broken. It could've been broken for days... I'm anxious to see what our next water bill will be like. :{

Solution to the problem: We called the city non-emergency number and they said they couldn't do anything about it. (That call was quite fun cuz we ended up talking to my cousin Cami who works for dispatch.) So we ended up shutting off our main water line for the night and turned it back on in the morning so we could take showers. Then we shut it off again with plans to try to fix it that day. Well, to make a long story short... We had to go 3 days turning our water on and off between attempts of fixing it. The glue finally held when we turned the water on Sunday morning.

Lesson learned: I need to put LOTS of water in our food storage. Well, I guess I should start a food storage first and water would be the first thing I'd make sure we had. During these few days without water I came to realize how much we really rely on it. We use it for everything-cooking, cleaning, bathing, brushing our teeth, washing our hands, doing laundry, washing the dishes, flushing the toilet, making bottles, etc. The list goes on. And whoever connected an above ground PVC pipe to the water line in a place where it's winter 7 months out of the year is crazy! :-)

Aha Moment: In Relief Society the Sunday after this incident, we were discussing personal revelation and being able to recognize the spirit. It was then that I realized I was prompted to take the garbage all the way to the garbage bin that night instead of just leaving it by the garage door like I usually do. What a blessing!

Happy 25th Birthday Stevie!

Steve celebrated his 25th birthday on January 26th and he claims it was his best 20s birthday yet! He spent his morning at school and his afternoon with Cooper until I got home from work. Then we went and saw Blind Side-which was VERY good. Followed by a delicious dinner with my aunt, mom, and dad at Sizzler.  We ended the evening at the Scholle's for cake, ice cream, and presents. Spencer made Steve's favorite confetti cake with vanilla frosting and mom got his favorite play dough ice cream. He didn't ask for much this year so I'm thinking that's why he had such a great birthday because he expected little. He got a few DVDs, a book, and from me-daddy and baby matching Texas Longhorn slippers. :-) He loved them! We love you Stevie! Happy Happy Birthday!

They even have matching shirts! :-)
Like father, like son.

Cooper loved the cake! He got a hand in it shortly after this picture was taken. He wasn't quite sure what to think about the fire and loud birthday song though. :-)

Matching slippers!!!
