I've been meaning to post on here for 2 months now. It's just amazing how busy I've been and it's hard to get the kids to cooperate enough for me to sit down at the computer and type. So thankfully, I'm finally on here! Coop's doing a good job entertaining himself right now and Aurora's sleeping away so I thought I'd jump at the chance. It's about time! :-) So here's an update on each family member...
STEVE
Is finally done with regular course classes! (Besides his online math class that he has to finish by August.) He will be interning this fall at Mountain Ridge Jr. High in Highland as a Spanish, German, and History teacher. He will also help coach their basketball team. The intern is half pay and full benefits and he is SO excited! It's nice to know that this is his last step to finally graduating. He'll be officially done with school April 2012. Yeah! And the principal even said that if he does well this year, they'll hire him on the next year as well. :-) He is still working at Pep Boys and is glad to be done with them in July so he can get started on this new chapter in his life.
He still loves to work on cars and is always working on house projects galore. Although, most of the projects get started but never finished. :-) He's currently working on finishing the rebuild of his '71 Chevy. He enjoyed a paint your own car class with his brother Spencer this last semester. Spencer has a '72 Chevy and they got it prepped for paint. Steve's excited to do the same to his car this fall. But because Steve's new job is in Highland he decided he needed a more reliable car. So he recently bought a 2004 Nissan Altima. It's really fun to drive and gets great gas mileage!
Lastly, another new and exciting thing that has happened to Steve... He was called to be our Elder's Quorum 1st Counselor!
JESSICA
I'm still trying to get used to being a mom of two . :-) I also went back to work the last three weeks of school. Which was fun but I felt rushed into the end. I will for sure enjoy a summer home with my kids before I have to go back for one more year of teaching this fall. I'm also proud to say that it only took me a week to get back to my pre-Aurora weight. But I didn't do anything special-just nursing. :-) And I still have about 30 lbs to go before I loose all of my Cooper weight. :-( Lastly, I think I've developed really bad allergies within the last 6 months. Runny nose, scratchy throat, sinus pressure, I hate it!
Oh, I've also been able to finally get back into my hobby of reading! Since Aurora arrived, I've been able to read while I nurse. I think I've read around 6 or so books in the past few months. I love it!
COOPER
Boy, has he grown! He weighs about 30 pounds and is almost 3 feet tall. He is now in 2T clothes, 3T jammies, 6/7 shoes, and size 5 diapers. He LOVES to talk! But lately his talking has included screaming. :-{ He currently has 12 teeth with all 4 canines coming in. After that, he just needs his 2 year old molars. He is obsessed with baseball! So naturally he has his own bat, ball, helmet, plate (the Wii board) and we're getting him a mit for his birthday. He is a toddler pro at "hit it" and he can throw pretty well with lots of force and pretty good aim. From watching his aunt and uncle's games he's now starting to get the concept of running the bases. He'll swing (even if no one is pitching to him) with his helmet on, throw the bat somewhere, then run around the house yelling "RUUUUN!!!" :-) It's so cute. He also likes slides and swings and was so excited when uncle Adam brought over a slide play set for our backyard.
He sleeps about 11 hours at night and takes a late afternoon 3 hour nap. Unfortunately, he started waking up in the middle of the night a few months before Aurora was born and the only way we could calm him down was to bring back the binki and put a night light in his room. But he does a pretty good job of understanding that his binki is only for 'na night' time. He sure is obsessed with it though and I hope he'll be able to get rid of it at least before he's 3.
He's a picky eater. Just like his dad. I can hardly ever get him to eat fruits or vegetables. Occasionally he'll eat bananas and apples. I do get him to eat a fruit roll that has 1 serving of fruit in it and he'll always take his gummy vitamins. He loves cereal! He'll also eat yogurt, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, french fries, chicken nuggets, spaghetti, pizza, raisins, Goldfish, soup, rice, beans, shredded cheese, and of course all the goodies-cookies, soda ("foda"), chocolate, suckers, candy, and ice cream. He also loves to drink milk galore and chew on ice.
Movies that Cooper likes most of the time: Nemo, Toy Story 1/2/3, Jungle Book, Tarzan, Tangled, Dragon, Panda, some sing along movies, and the dinosaurs and gorilla in King Kong. He went through a big Buzz phase shortly after we tried taking him to see Toy Story 3. He would sit and watch any Buzz movie several times a day, all day, every day. :-) But know he hates movies. He sometimes gets mad at me if I try putting one in for him to watch. We even tried taking him to see Panda 2 because we thought he was finally old enough to sit through one. He loved having popcorn but as soon as it was out, he got a little restless so Steve had to take him out of the theater. He was so cute during the parts he did watch. He kept making cute comments like "whoa" here and there. I loved it! When the lights went out he got a little scared and grabbed my arm and said "Mommy, K?" (he was asking if I was okay so he could feel okay) so cute!
Books he likes: Thomas sing alongs, Knuffle Bunny, I Love You More, 20 Hungry Piggies (he likes to hide from the wolf), There's A Mouse in the House, Smiley Shark, and Noisy Zoo!
He enjoys nursery. He starting going in January and it took him a month or so to finally get used to going with out crying. But shortly after Aurora arrived, he started crying again. I think it might have to do with being a little more attached from having a new sister at home. He also missed a few weeks in a row so he sort of forgot how to behave. Our nursery also tripled in size within a week so I think he fills a little more intimidated. This past Sunday the nursery leader had to take him out because he was pushing the other kids. The first thing Cooper said when she looked at him was, "niiice". He knew what the pep talk was going to be about before she even started. :-) Then he spent the rest of the time saying sorry to everybody. I sure hope we can get his behavior under control before he starts school in a few years. I don't want him to be a bully. But he sure likes bossing people around. He even picks on kids bigger then him and he tells adults "bop it!" all the time. I guess only time will tell. :-)
Because of nursery singing time he's gotten more and more interested into signing songs with mom. The songs we like to sing together are: Patty Cake, Itsy Bitsy Spider, The Wheels on the Bus, Popcorn Popping, Head Shoulders, Knees, and Toes, 5 Little Monkey's Swinging in a Tree, Baby Shark, Once There Was a Snowman, and Ring Around the Rosie's.
Cooper also likes to get into lots of trouble. :-) Especially when I'm busty feeding Aurora. Mischievous (& some cute) things Cooper's done recently: Puts his toys down the air vents, a hole in the wall from our front door knob, in the toilet, down the window wells, and in Aurora's diaper genie. :-{ He throws things at his sisters head and slaps her when she won't stop crying. He spilled a bag of chocolate chips on the floor and sat down and ate all of them off the floor. Drew a scribble picture on the front window of our house with a crayon. Opens and shuts all the doors. (So we now have door knob covers on them so he doesn't end up outside by himself again.) Squirts himself in the face with a squirt bottle. Gets in the shower with his clothes on. Stays in his bed even after he's awake so he can have more binki time. When he hides from someone, he just covers his eyes. :-) Talks to himself in his sleep. Drinks his milk out of his cereal bowl. Spills mom's water all over the floor. Throws his food on the floor when he's done eating. Scribbled on his legs with marker. Eats mom's chap-stick.Climbs into Aurora's crib. Plays in the toilet water. Bosses everyone round. Demands attention. Gives lots of hugs, kisses, high fives, knuckles, and hand shakes.
And yes, we did give him time out for some of these things. And the bathroom door and Aurora's door now have knob covers on them. :-) Oh, we just love our busy little rascal!
AURORA
I can't believe she's almost 11 weeks old already. At her 2 week checkup she had gained a pound and grew two inches. Measuring at 7 lbs 10 oz and 21 inches. At 1 month she was 9 lbs 21 inches. And at her most recent 2 month checkup she measured 10 lbs (35%) & 21 inches (10%). She is still our petite little girl! She even still fits some of her newborn outfits and wasn't wearing size 1 diapers or 0-3 month outfits until she was 7 weeks old. I guess she has her daddy's tall and skinny genes. :-)
At her 2 week appointment the nurses asked to take her picture. Just as I lifted her up for the camera, she spits up a big projectile all over the back of the computer and down the counter. I wonder how often that happens. :-)
She looks a lot like Cooper. She has his nose! Which I think might be a flattened version of my nose. Her eyes are still a blue gray but they're my shape. She has her dad's hair. (still) Coop's hair was gone before he was 2 months old. But now Aurora's going on 3 months and it's still there! I hope she keeps it, it's so pretty! Her ears are shaped like mine but big like her dad's. Her toes and fingers are really long and slender. Her thighs and cheeks are just now starting to chunk out. :-) Luckily, she hasn't gotten very bad acne and her hair covers up the little bit of cradle cap. We all think she's just so pretty! And she looks the best in purple and yellow.
The day she was born, one of the nurses mentioned that she has a little bit of a tied tongue and we should have our doctor clip it for her. When our doctor saw her the next day she mentioned that it was slight and we could do it only if we wanted to. We couldn't decide then so we waited. At her 2 month checkup we decided to go ahead and do it. Mostly because we didn't want it to affect her speech. I'm already glad that we did. She seems to be able to make more baby noises and she doesn't cough at night like she did, so I'm thinking it helped. To clip it wasn't even that bad either. There was hardly any blood and it didn't seem painful. It was quick and easy.
Our little princess is so precious. I just want to squeeze and kiss her all the time. I love watching her sleep. She looks so peaceful. But she's not the same mellow and sleepy baby she was the first few weeks she was home. She's now more alert and wiggly and she can get pretty colicky at times. It makes me sad to watch her cry when she has bad stomach pains because we can't do much for her. Sometimes she'll scream for an hour. It's not fun. She also LOVES to be bundled and held. It makes it hard to get things done around the house during the day because she just wants you to hold her all the time. So naturally she doesn't like the swing, bouncer, or car seat very much. Her cry is even demanding sometimes. She's just so cute!
She does really well at night. I think at around 7 weeks old she slept 8 hours and she's now starting to sleep around 9-11 hours. Usually from 8pm-6ish. It's awesome! She stays in her crib the whole time too. But she has to be bundled tight and sometimes she wakes up for her binki but then goes right back to sleep. She doesn't nap very well during the day though and it's usually only when you're holding her. :-)
She likes taking baths. She eats about 4 oz every 3 hours. Since I had to go back to work for 3 weeks, she nursed and took breast milk in bottles. After I'd come home from work it'd be hard to get her to nurse. She just preferred the bottle. Which made me a little sad. But I am proud to say that she's nursed completely the last few days! Yeah! But it's also nice to be able make a bottle for her if I know we'll be out of the house for a feeding. (Because I personally hate nursing anywhere but home. Home's just lots easier.)
She doesn't mind tummy time and she holds her head up really well. She's developed tears. Just this last week she learned to smile and coo. I love it! Her smile just melts my heart and her coos bring out the cutest little voice. She's our little angel. We love you "Rora"!
P.S. It took me a week to finish this post. (I started it last Wed and I'm just now posting it the following Thurs. Crazy!)
